Hyrox race day kit list: what to actually bring
Almost nothing on this list is expensive and almost none of it is optional. First races go wrong in small, boring ways: a bag left the wrong side of the venue, a top that turned out to chafe at kilometre six, no way to get a wet kit home.
Pack it the night before, not the morning of. The list is short enough that you can lay it out on a bed and see the gap.
[ What to look for ]
- The kit you have already trained in. Race day is the worst possible day to find out how something feels.
- A spare top, and a full spare set if you are travelling. Venues are hot and you will finish soaked.
- Your race confirmation and photo ID, in whatever form the organiser asked for.
- Water you can drink before the start, and something you know sits well in your stomach.
- A small towel and a plastic bag for wet kit on the way home.
- Layers for the wait. There is usually a lot of standing around before a wave goes.
[ What to avoid ]
- Anything brand new. New shoes, new socks and new tops are three of the most common causes of a race somebody remembers for the wrong reason.
- Fuelling you have never tried. If you have not taken it in training, race morning is not the experiment.
- Relying on the venue for anything you actually need — bag drop, water and phone signal all vary by site.
- Over-packing. A heavy bag you have to carry across a venue is its own problem.
