HYROX Birmingham runs 27 October to 1 November 2026 at the NEC, Pendigo Way, Marston Green, Birmingham B40 1NT. Divisions and waves spread across that window, so your own race day depends on your entry.
The race is the same race as everywhere else. The venue, the logistics and your preparation are the variables you actually control.

Why trust this
Date and venue are read from HYROX's own event listing rather than estimated. Ben Sutherland races Pro Doubles on the Elite 15 start list, so the preparation notes come from racing this format.
Dates move. Confirm on the official event page before booking anything.
There is no Birmingham course
The eight stations, their order, their distances and your division's loads are fixed by the rulebook and identical worldwide: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, row, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls, with a 1km run before each.
What does vary between venues, and does move your time:
- Track layout and laps per kilometre. More laps means more corners, and corners cost rhythm. The NEC halls are large, which generally allows longer running loops than tighter venues.
- Floor surface, which changes sled friction noticeably. The same 152kg genuinely feels different hall to hall.
- Roxzone length, the transition area between run and station. That time counts towards your finish.
- Wave congestion, which can mean queuing at stations at busier events.
So do not compare a Birmingham time directly against a friend's time from another city. Identical performances can be minutes apart.
Getting there
The NEC is one of the easiest major venues in the UK to reach.
- Train to Birmingham International, which connects to the NEC by a covered walkway. Direct services from London Euston take around 70 to 80 minutes.
- Air, since Birmingham Airport is adjacent and connected by the same link.
- Car, with extensive on-site parking. Book in advance and expect a walk from the car parks to your hall.
The NEC is very large and halls are numbered. Check which hall your event is in before you arrive, because crossing the site takes longer than people expect.
The late-October factor
An autumn race changes two practical things.
The halls can be cold before your wave, particularly near loading doors. Bring layers you can shed late and keep them on until close to your start.
Your training block runs through late summer and autumn. Counting back twelve weeks from late October puts the start in early August. That means the middle of your block lands in September as daylight shortens. If your running depends on evenings outdoors, decide now how you will handle darker sessions, because that is what usually derails autumn preparation, not fitness.
The practical part: twelve weeks out from Birmingham
Counting back from the end of October, a twelve-week block starts in early August.
- Weeks 1-4, running base. Three runs weekly: one easy 5km, one interval session, one longer easy run of 8-10km. Running is the strongest predictor of your finish.
- Weeks 5-8, compromised work. One session a week going straight from a station into a run. Row 500m, run 1km, repeat four times. This sensation is the entire race and running alone does not train it.
- Weeks 9-11, race weight on everything. Weigh your gym's sled first, then load to total race weight, because the rulebook figures include the sled.
- Week 12, taper. Halve the volume, keep some intensity. You cannot gain fitness in the final week but you can lose freshness.
- Throughout, rehearse transitions. Out of a station and running within ten seconds. Almost nobody practises this and it is free time.
What to bring
- Layers, because the hall will be cold before you start and warm once you are moving.
- Your own gloves if you use them for the sled pull and farmers carry, since grip fails at two separate stations.
- Shoes you have already run in. Race day is not for new trainers.
- Food for a longer wait than you expect between arrival and your wave.
Honest limitations
Wave times are set when entries close, and hall layout is published close to the event. Neither can be predicted here.
Dates and venues change. These figures were read from the official listing, but confirm before booking travel or accommodation.
Birmingham is a popular event with good transport links, so specific divisions and waves fill. Enter early rather than hopefully.
