HYROX Cardiff runs 20 to 29 May 2027 at the Principality Stadium, Westgate Street, Cardiff CF10 1NS. That is a notably long event window, so divisions and waves are spread widely and your own race day depends on your entry.
The race is standardised worldwide. The venue, the travel and your training block are what you control.

Why trust this
The date and venue are read from HYROX's own event listing rather than estimated. Ben Sutherland races Pro Doubles on the Elite 15 start list, so the preparation notes come from racing the format.
Dates shift, and a window this wide is particularly likely to be refined. Confirm on the official event page before booking.
There is no Cardiff course
Station order, distances and division loads are fixed by the rulebook and identical everywhere: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, row, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls, each after a 1km run.
What varies by venue and moves your time:
- Track layout and laps per kilometre. More corners, less rhythm.
- Floor surface, which changes sled friction. This is particularly worth noting at a stadium, where the racing surface is laid over the pitch or concourse rather than being a permanent exhibition floor.
- Roxzone length, whose time counts.
- Wave congestion, which a long event window tends to reduce.
Do not compare a Cardiff time directly against one set elsewhere.
Getting there
The Principality Stadium is unusual among HYROX venues in being right in the city centre rather than at an out-of-town exhibition park.
- Train to Cardiff Central, a five-minute walk away. Direct services from London Paddington take under two hours.
- Walk from anywhere in the city centre, since the stadium is surrounded by it.
- Car is the awkward option. City-centre parking is limited and streets around the stadium close for events. Park and ride, or take the train.
The city-centre location is a genuine advantage: accommodation, food and the station are all within walking distance, which removes most of the race-morning logistics that out-of-town venues create.
The May factor
A late-spring race is the friendliest slot in the calendar for preparation.
Your training block runs through late winter into spring. Counting back twelve weeks from late May starts you in late February, so the block improves in daylight and weather as it progresses rather than deteriorating. That makes consistency substantially easier than an autumn or winter block.
The hall may be warmer than a winter event. Hydration matters more than layering here, which is the reverse of the December and March races.
The practical part: twelve weeks out from Cardiff
Counting back from late May, a twelve-week block starts in late February or early March.
- Weeks 1-4, running base. Three runs weekly: one easy 5km, one interval session, one longer easy run of 8-10km. Improving light makes this the easiest part of the year to build the habit.
- Weeks 5-8, compromised work. One weekly session straight from a station into a run. Row 500m, run 1km, four times.
- Weeks 9-11, race weight on everything. Weigh your gym's sled and load to total race weight, since the official figures include the sled.
- Week 12, taper. Halve the volume, keep some intensity.
- Practise in warmer conditions late in the block. If May turns warm, a hall full of athletes gets hot. Doing your last few compromised sessions without a fan is a small, useful adaptation.
What to bring
- More fluid than you would take to a winter event.
- Gloves if you use them for the sled pull and farmers carry.
- Shoes you have already run in.
- Layers anyway, because a stadium concourse before your wave can still be cold.
Honest limitations
The published window spans ten days, which is wide even by HYROX standards. Treat it as the outer bound rather than your race date, and confirm your specific day when waves are announced.
Wave times and hall layout are published close to the event and cannot be given here.
Dates and venues change, and a 2027 date this far out is more likely to be revised than a 2026 one. Confirm before booking anything non-refundable.
